More About Bubba Island Kush

  • Bubba Island Kush is a dark-colored indica with compact buds that are full of glistening trichomes, her effect is known to be powerful and narcotic
  • Bubba Island Kush has a strong aroma with mostly sour and fruity Kush notes
  • Bubba Island Kush has an earthy Kush aroma in which sour, fruity notes are dominant
  • Bubba Island Kush has an ‘old-school hash plant’ appearance with dark leaves and very white compact buds

This cannabis variety is based on a number of different popular American cannabis strains. Each with their own aroma and flavor profile, which causes this ‘3-way cross’ to have a very unique terpene profile; the aroma is powerful and pungent and it is strongly recommended to use good/new filters when growing this USA cannabis strain.

The Bubba cross guarantees a very white bud which is completely covered in a thick layer of sticky trichomes. Besides a high THC content this strain has an interesting mix of terpenes. In general she smells slightly sour, gassy mixed with earth, citrus and floral notes. She is really quite flavorful and true kush lovers must try it at least once!

Bubbba Island Kush tends to get very dark leaves during the end of the flowering phase, the color can vary from red, light purple to very dark purple to almost black. The compact structure combined with the dark leaves and very white buds gives the plants a true “old-school” Afghan Hash plant appearance. Cold temperatures at night speed up this process. When Bubba Island Kush is grown outdoors, you can expect a huge range of different colors on the leaves. Purple tones can also sometimes appear in the flowers, these are truly beautiful phenos to behold with great “bag” appeal.

Bubba Island Kush Strain Genetics

This particularly strong Kush genetics originated in North America, the breeders developed this new strain by crossing (Grandaddy Purple x OG Kush) with a pre ’98 Bubba Kush sire. The average height of one meter, fast flowering time of 7.5 weeks and fruity sour Kush notes, make Bubba Island Kush a very special Kush addition to the existing collection. Bubba Island Kush is part of a “USA Special” seed collection which features only the very best genetics from the United States.

Bubba Island Kush: A Fast Grower With Compact Flowers And Good Yields

Bubba Island Kush is an Indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain with a very fast flowering time of only 7 to 7.5 weeks. Due to her fast life cycle, most plants tend to remain compact and small, which makes this strain perfect for a quick SOG grow. When working with only a few plants per m2, it is best to pregrow a little longer (+- 5 to 8 weeks depending on the number of plants per m2) to still get a great yield with this strain.

Her compact growth structure with short internodes makes Bubba Island Kush a very suitable plant to grow with the SOG method. Furthermore, she also does very well when grown naturally, due to her strong branches and compact structure she has no trouble staying upright even when grown outdoors. Although she was originally developed as a cannabis strain for indoor cultivation, her fast flowering time allows her to be grown outdoors as well.

Just be careful with lots of rain and moisture during the end of the flowering phase. Because of her compact buds, it is recommended to put the plants under a shelter in late flowering. The colder night temperatures really create a beautiful color palette. Especially the leaves can become very dark during the flowering phase. This variety will appeal to true Kush lovers due to its unusual appearance and flavorful terpenes. During autumn the plants often turn from dark green to red/purple to eventually dark purple or even completely black! The colder it is outside, the sooner she will color.

Bubba Island Kush doesn’t stretch much when flowering, usually coming to a complete stop within 2-3 weeks of turning the clock to 12/12. From then on, she will start putting all her energy into the development(s) of her buds. The leaves have a true Indica appearance in the growing phase, with thick fat fingers characteristic of her Indica heritage. Her plant structure is best described as compact, the internode spacing is relatively small and the leaves have a hybrid structure during the flowering phase that clearly leans more towards the Indica side.

The genetics used to create Bubba Island Kush guarantee the following characteristics:

  • A very compact plant with a fast flowering time
  • A complex terpene profile with a penetrating sour, fruity Kush aroma and taste, this flavorful Indica-dominant USA-Kush cross also has a very high THC level
  • A plant with beautiful dark colors that contrast nicely with the thick white layer of trichomes on the buds
  • Bubba Island Kush is the ideal strain for the true Kush lover. Her complex terpene profile will make you want to grow her again and again!

Effects Of Bubba Island Kush

Bubba Island Kush has a pleasant and satisfying high. Many smokers experience a powerful narcotic effect that works on both the body and mind. Physically the high is very strong and makes you relax and unwind. It is the ideal cannabis strain for an evening of binge-watching your favorite series on Netflix. Lean back and relax! The mental effect perfectly complements the physical part, the strain gives you a sense of well-being and puts you into a peaceful euphoric ecstasy. The high is strong and a small compact bud from this lady is enough to fill a fat joint! Although her buds are usually a bit smaller than average, they are really hard and compact. Don’t smoke too much at once because this strain is strong enough for more experienced smokers!

Flowering Time Of Bubba Island Kush

Bubba Island Kush is a very compact feminized cannabis strain that can flower incredibly fast. With an average flowering time of 7-8 weeks, she is among the fastest-flowering photoperiodic cannabis plants. If you like a very strong narcotic effect, we recommend keeping her flowering about a week longer. So that most of the trichomes will turn amber. This creates an extremely potent physical high that is unparalleled.

Due to the fast flowering time the plants usually stay a bit smaller, so it is important to pre-grow her a bit longer if you are only working with a small number of plants per m2. In a SOG this is not necessary and you get perfect Christmas trees with only a few weeks of pregrowth. This enables very fast growing cycles with this variety.

The Yield Of The Bubba Island Kush Strain

Bubba Island Kush is L-rated because of her good yield, which on a m2 is usually a little lower than what you might be used to from other similar strains. But with her fast flowering time she more than makes up for this. Average yields are somewhere between 350-450 g/m2 in an indoor growth setting with strong lights.

Outdoors, she can yield around 500-750 g per plant with proper care and pre-growth. Due to her fast flowering time, she can be grown in many different climates, but preferably as dry as possible. For best results grow her in a ventilated greenhouse or polytunnel, this will protect her from the rain and reduce the chances of bud rot and mold.

Expert Advice

Bubba Island Kush grows practically by itself, it is a fairly easy strain to grow. She requires no special growing methods or feeding schemes to achieve a good and tasty end result. Nutritionally, she is not a difficult eater and will flourish with just about any food line. For the most flavorful results, however, we recommend growing her completely organically. This will benefit her strong pungent aroma and flavor!

If we can give one tip about this strain, it is important not to flower her too early. The strain stretches slightly in the flowering phase, so do not expect large tall plants but rather compact bushy plants. She is very suitable for growing in a SOG but can also be grown in a SCROG. Her stiff and strong branches can also be ‘cropped and supercropped’, they will not break easily. Topping and fimming can be done in a SCROG, but we strongly advise against doing this in a SOG or the natural way. The beautiful full main bud with glistening white trichomes on the often dark purple/black leaves is something you will not soon forget!
